# Return shipping methods

Return shipping methods define how customers ship their items back to you after a return is approved. ParcelWILL (Formerly ParcelPanel) offers four shipping methods, each suited to different return workflows. You can enable multiple methods and let customers choose, or use automation workflows to assign specific methods based on conditions.

Go to **ParcelWILL app > Return settings > Return shipping methods** to manage your shipping methods.

## Available shipping methods

### Ship with a return label provided by the merchant

When this method is enabled, you provide a pre-paid return label to the customer after approving their return. This is the most streamlined option — customers simply download and print the label, then drop off the package.

<figure><img src="/files/URCkeW8JYNAby67sBK0p" alt=""><figcaption><p>What consumers see</p></figcaption></figure>

You can customize:

* **Custom name** — the label shown to customers (e.g., "Ship with a return label provided by the merchant")
* **Custom description** — a short explanation (e.g., "You will get a return label after we approve your request")
* **Custom return instructions** — step-by-step instructions shown to customers after approval (e.g., "Download and print the return label. Pack all items in a box. Take it to an authorized drop-off location.")

**Scan-based return labels** (Essential plan) — enable the **QR code** option to offer customers a printerless return experience. Instead of printing a label, customers show a QR code at a supported drop-off location. Currently available for USPS and Evri.

{% hint style="info" %}
Return labels can be generated automatically through carrier integrations, or uploaded manually when approving each return request. See [Logistics integration](/help-center/carrier-integrations/parcelwill-carrier.md) for setup details.
{% endhint %}

### Pickup

When enabled, a courier picks up the return package directly from the customer's address. This removes the need for customers to visit a drop-off location.

Pickup is currently available for **US domestic returns only** and requires the **Professional plan**.

### Ship on your own

This method lets customers choose their own carrier and ship the return at their own expense. You do not need to provide a label or arrange pickup — the customer handles everything.

<figure><img src="/files/lesKwn5g0uJOLNdQ9TWv" alt=""><figcaption><p>What consumers see-Add tracking</p></figcaption></figure>

You can customize:

* **Custom name** — the label shown to customers
* **Custom description** — a short explanation (e.g., "Ship with any feasible carrier of your choice")
* **Custom return instructions** — step-by-step instructions (e.g., "Pack all items with your RMA number. Go to the local post office to ship the package.")

**Return shipment proof** — choose whether customers are required to upload proof of shipment (such as a tracking number or receipt photo):

* **Optional** — customers can submit proof but it's not required
* **Required** — customers must upload proof before the return can proceed

### Green returns

Green returns allow customers to keep the item instead of shipping it back. The refund or exchange is processed without any return shipment. This is ideal when the return shipping cost exceeds the item value, or for items that cannot be resold.

Green returns require the **Essential plan**.

{% hint style="info" %}
Green returns help reduce carbon emissions from reverse shipping. They're also a good option for low-value items where the cost of return shipping doesn't make business sense.
{% endhint %}

#### **Conditions setting**

You can set conditions to control when green returns are offered to customers, rather than showing them on every return. This works like a filter — only returns that match your conditions will see the green return option.

Under **Logical**, choose how multiple conditions interact:

* **If all conditions are met** — every condition must be true (AND logic)
* **If any conditions are met** — at least one condition must be true (OR logic)
* **No conditions required** — green returns are always available

Each condition is built from three dropdowns: the **field** (e.g., Return solution, Order total, Product type), the **operator** (e.g., is, is not, greater than), and the **value**. You can add multiple conditions using the **And** rows.

{% hint style="info" %}
For example, you could set a condition like "If Return solution **is** Refund to original payment **and** Order total **is less than** $15" — this way, green returns only appear for low-value refund requests where the return shipping cost isn't worth it.
{% endhint %}
